I just got this book and have not finished it yet (I read slower now!) but I highly recommend it. The author, Clark Elliott, is a professor at DePaul University in Chicago. One day, he was rear-ended in what seemed like a minor traffic accident and that began his TBI journey.I too had a fairly simple accident, a serious bike crash. I did have my helmet on - it was shattered. I was unconscious and stopped breathing. I was taken by ambulance to the ER and they treated all of the obvious stuff: bleeding head wound, broken clavicle, Morel-Lavallée lesions on my hip. I spent the night in the hospital for observation and was sent home. It was several weeks before my family doctor detected changes in my behavior, memory and cognitive abilities. He sent me to a neurologist who did the usual MRI. I was told that I had a concussion and that at my age it would be a slow recovery. That was it. Thanks!The memory loss is a funny thing. You don't know what you don't remember until something happens and someone else points it out to you. I have balance issues, but for the most part appear fairly normal - until I try to work. I am a writer (software reviews) and since the accident, work has been a challenge. I have discovered a few other resources, but Elliott's book was a breakthrough!Just check it out! It has already helped me understand many of the things that I have gone through!
